Reason for Netherlands vs Ecuador Predictions
The Netherlands are back at the World Cup after missing out in 2018, and although it took a little while, they showed what they are capable of. For the first 80 minutes of their game against Senegal, the Netherlands was well-matched by the African champions and found themselves on the back foot at times. But like successful teams in the past, the Netherlands found a way. Cody Gakpo was the hero in the 84th minute, rising bravely to challenge Edouard Mendy in the air, winning the header against the Senegal goalkeeper’s fists to glance the ball into the back of the net from Frenkie de Jong’s cross. Davy Klaassen then put the shine on the win in injury time, tapping in after Mendy pushed a shot into his path, handing the Netherlands their first World Cup win in eight years. Cody Gakpo shows talent, he has excellent ball control, can play in multiple positions, and every team needs such a player. Steven Bergwijn is a guy who causes a lot of problems for the opponent on the left side. He is fast and unstoppable in a one-on-one game.
Ecuador, meanwhile, took on hosts Qatar in their opening match and broke the hearts of a nation. The odds were in their favor going into the game, given Qatar’s infancy on the world stage, but Ecuador may still have been feeling some pressure given the occasions. If they did, it didn’t show, especially as Enner Valencia put the ball in the back of the net after just five minutes. Sure, the goal was eventually ruled out for offside following a lengthy VAR review, but it set a precedent for the match and gave Ecuador confidence. By half-time, Ecuador was 2-0 up thanks to a Valencia brace, including the opener from the penalty spot, and ultimately cruised to victory by that same scoreline. The win means Ecuador has already equaled the number of wins for their last appearance at the World Cup in 2014. In fact, only in 2006 have they managed more than one victory, securing two en route to the round of 16. Gonzalo Plata enjoys the field, and when he receives the ball and goes toward the goal, the opponent has problems because he passes through the defense like a fast train. Moises Caicedo found the right role in the team, he moves great in the middle of the field, and it isn’t easy to take the ball away from this guy.
There are no favorites in this match, and we won’t be surprised if this clash could end in a draw.
This will be a big fight between these two rivals, and we should expect a goal from both teams.
