Reason for Netherlands vs Austria Predictions
The Netherlands played an uninspiring goalless draw in the first half of the opening game against Ukraine. Still, the second half was all fireworks, ending in a more complicated than expected 3-2 victory. Once again, Netherlands coach Frank de Boer went under criticism and is pressurized for his team to play more dominant football. The Netherlands is still among one of the contenders to go far in this tournament, but they do not look compelling at the moment. Perhaps one of the problems is a lack of motivation. The Netherlands has not faced any severe opponent in the past few months. Anyhow, they have a great history against Austria and are unbeaten against them in 30 years. They won each of their last six head-to-head duels against them, including their most recent one played back in 2016, which ended 2-0. Matthijs de Ligt missed the first game for the Netherlands with a groin injury, and is still doubtful for selection. Memphis Depay enjoys the field, and when he receives the ball and moves towards the goal, the opponent has problems. He is strong, and his most significant strength is speed. Marten de Roon is tall, plays great in both directions, and does not allow opponents to play much in the middle of the field.
Austria was lucky to escape with three points from their opening game against North Macedonia. They played rather poorly in larger parts of the game, but two very late goals gave them a 3-1 victory. That was Austria`s second victory in their last seven competitive games, the other one being against the Faroe Islands. The last game was Austria`s fifth game from the previous six in which both sides scored, so their defense is not very reliable. It would be really surprising if Austria manages to go through to the knockout stages, but considering that 3 of the four teams could go further, they will likely get the chance to play there. Not many changes in the line-up are expected in this game, so Austria is likely to play with the same starting eleven. Marcel Sabitzer creates a lot of problems for the opponents on the right-wing. It’s hard to keep this guy in the one-on-one game, as he has fantastic dribbles. Sasa Kalajdzic is the engine of this team, he goes through the defense of the opponent like a fast train, he has excellent ball control, he can be satisfied with his games. Many teams are interested in this guy.
Conclusion
It will be a big battle between these two teams, and it will not be surprising if the match ends in a draw. We can also expect a goal in both nets, and neither side should keep the clean sheet.
